Travel: visual stories from the journey

Portraits, lifestyle, and community — capturing the human side of travel and brand storytelling.

These collections come from recent travels — short journeys of one to three days where Derek tries to capture as much of the experience as possible. These trips are immersive, often packed with tours, city walks, and shared experiences that reveal the character of each location through light, texture, and the reactions of fellow travelers.

Derek photographs what moves him. It might be the emotion on a traveller’s face, the action of a fast-paced tour, the light across a landscape, or the architecture that defines a city. His goal is always the same — to put the viewer in the moment and spark that feeling of wanting to be there.

The camera gear changes with the goal. When the destination calls for images for websites or blog posts, a high-quality smartphone or a DJI Action 5 allows light travel and agility. Larger-format work demands a DSLR and professional lenses. For 4K video, Derek primarily uses the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, the Action 5, or the Sony A7.

Let’s talk about your vision.
