The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association’s (BCTMA) variety show played to an almost full house of enthusiastic music-lovers at Washington NC’s historic Turnage Theatre late in May.
Spectators sang and clapped along to lively performances from musicians Darren Smith, Mac McRoy and Elton Ipock, the Flatland Zingers (Linda Boyer and Rob Cuthrell) and JB and Pamela.
The group’s resident character, Rob Cuthrell, hosted the show and kept the crowd laughing with pre-perfornance chatter and with his new-found zeal to be “extra-extra nice and say nice things” about Linda Boyer and her banjo.
“I can’t stand any more of this,” laughed Boyer at one point after repeated over-the-top compliments from Cuthrell. The audience lapped it up.
As with all the shows BCTMA puts on, admission is free but donations are appreciated. Proceeds typically go to a local charity such as helping to finance a new roof for the theatre.
The NEXT edition of the variety show, hosted by Bobby Moore, comes up Thursday, June 20, also at the Turnage Theatre and starts at 7 pm and runs till 9 pm. For more information:

BCTMA is a Washington-based, non-profit group, associated with the Arts of the Pamlico, that promotes traditional music in Eastern NC. Over the last ten years, BCTMA has grown into an active group of musicians and supporters that organizes shows and hosts jam sessions for casual and experienced musicians every Saturday morning.
